            Hand Embroidery Artisan - Introduction to Hand Embroidery

            Objective: At the end of this lesson you shall be able to

            Embroidery hoops:  An embroidery hoop is a tool used   Fig 4
            in needlework, consisting of two circular rings that fit
            together to hold fabric taut while embroidering, allowing
            for easier stitching by keeping the fabric stretched and
            stable; essentially, it’s a frame that keeps the fabric in
            place while you work on it with embroidery needles.
            It  is  used  to  hold  fabric  taut  while  stitching.  We  use
            plastic ones for stitching and wooden ones for framing
            embroideries. (Fig 1)

            Embroidery needles: An embroidery needle is a
            long, sharp needle with a an eye that is used for hand
            embroidery. (Fig 2)

                                                                  An iron and ironing board are extremely important to
                                                                  press fabric before you embroider. Any ironing board will
                                                                  do, but steam iron with multiple temperature settings for
                                                                  best results. (Fig 6)

            Embroidery fabric can be almost any type of fabric!
            However - linen,  cotton, pashmina, toosha and  are all
            great beginner embroidery fabrics because they’re easy
            to work with. (Figs 3-5)
